Sea turtle hatchlings lost at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH -- In the early morning hours of August 1, 112 sea turtle hatchlings broke through their shells and emerged onto the sands of Wrightsville Beach. But according to Nancy Fahey, coordinator of the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project, it’s likely those hatchlings never made it to the ocean. She believes that instead of following the light of the moon, they became disoriented by the lights at Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier.
