Magnitude 4.2 earthquake shakes desert region

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake, centered about 10 miles south of Twentynine Palms, shook the California desert Monday morning, the United States Geological Survey reported. The 9:26 a.m. temblor was widely felt throughout the Coachella Valley and south-central San Bernardino County.
