Building at BART stations

San Francisco Chronicle - 07-18

Development has been proposed or been completed at nearly two dozen BART stations, but no two stations follow the same path, as these six examples show. If you rezone it, they don’t always come. In 2011, Pittsburg approved a plan that made BART’s 27-acre parking lot the center of a transit village that would include 1,200 housing units, 150,000 square feet of commercial space and a 2,000-car parking garage. But since there’s plenty of land in eastern Contra Costa to build conventional subdivisions, no builders have shown interest.
