Deputies try to help a stranded motorist and end up making a drug arrest. On Thursday, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office stopped to assist a motorist that appeared to be stranded in the travel lane on W. Ash Street. The officers learned the vehicle was running out of fuel and suspected the driver was impaired. The DWI Task Force was called for assistance, and 47-year-old Leamon E. Canady, Jr. of Clayton was reportedly found to be “grossly impaired on alcohol and other controlled substances.” Deputies also report finding heroin and meth during a subsequent search. Canady was arrested and charged with DWI, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Heroin, and Driving While License Revoked. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under an $8,000 secured bond.
