Slight Catoosa County property tax cut passes Georgia House

Chattanooga Times Free Press - 02-22

The Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill this morning that would lower some Catoosa County property owners' tax bills. The local act, sponsored by State Reps. Dewayne Hill and Steve Tarvin, will create a tax break for residents older than 65. If those property owners make less than $30,000 a year, they would get a $40,000 break on the assessed value of their home. (For example, if the assessed value of their home was $200,000, the owner would pay taxes as if were worth $160,000.)
