Wilton 7th Grader Wins Cornell University Birdsleuth Challenge

Patch - 02-22

Do birds prefer music? New Canaan Country School seventh grade science student Jane Walsh undertook a month-long experiment in 2018 to find out. Under the guidance of her then sixth grade science teacher, Margaret Mackey, Jane designed an experiment to objectively determine whether or not birds preferred a feeder with music playing (selecting Ludwig van Beethoven's No. 9 in D minor) or instead, visit a feeder with no music at all. Her hypothesis was that birds would prefer silence and be scared away by music.
