SANTA CRUZ — “It’s over.”. Miguel Castaneda allegedly said that phrase as he pointed a .38 revolver at Victor Vasquez Lopez’s head and shot him twice in the face about 11:30 a.m. April 20, 2018, at Riverside Drive and Industrial Road. The firearm was loaded with snake-shot pellet rounds, which are similar to small shotgun rounds. The coroner found roughly 100 pellets lodged in Lopez’s skull and body, according to a court reporter’s transcript. The charges: Murder with a firearm and assault with a firearm.
