They say Talladega Superspeedway lies on haunted Indian burial ground, but it’s also a breeding ground for first-time NASCAR Cup Series winners. Ever since Richard Brickhouse visited victory lane for the first — and only — time in the 1969 Talladega 500 inauguration of then-Alabama International Motor Speedway (a race that many Grand National drivers skipped due to safety concerns), the track that has an unforgiving reputation has been unusually kind to up-and-coming drivers.
