Sheriff's Beat 4-16-19: Authorities discovered marijuana, firearm, in Muskogee man's vehicle

A Muskogee man was arrested April 14 at a traffic stop after Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputies found marijuana and a firearm in the vehicle. Deputy Nick Chute performed the traffic stop and smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle. The driver, Malcolm Jamal Ashley, 20, Muskogee, was asked to exit the vehicle while it was searched. Deputies found 1.85 pounds of marijuana and a loaded firearm, which was deemed stolen. Ashley was transported to the detention center and booked for no driver's license, defective vehicle, failure to signal within 100 feet, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, transporting a loaded firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
