BEIRUT, Lebanon — The princess known as Sheikha Latifa had not left Dubai, the glittering emirate ruled by her father, in 18 years. Her requests to travel and study elsewhere had been denied. Her passport had been taken away. Her friends’ apartments were forbidden to her, her palace off-limits to...

I hope somebody can help the princess. I’m very surprised the former president of Ireland is involved like that. She seems to be conspiring with them. What is she and her country benefiting from this?

Bezos at work 😂😂😂 and accidentally for a good cause

““I don’t know how, how I’ll feel, just waking up in the morning and thinking, I can do whatever I want today,” she said. “That’ll be such a new, different feeling. It’ll be amazing.”

Now you are talking about this?!!! This happened like a year ago!!!!

This video made me burst into tears😢Hope she is alive and safe

The real Dubai

#FreeLatifa is an instructive case. There was clearly pressure put on the Indian government to board that boat and take her back. There is a lot of interest in fleeing #Saudi women at the moment but the situation for #Emirati and other women in the #Gulf is often just as bad.

They're fucking evil and they would try to lock me up in a second to prevent their nasty secrets from getting out. They're sick people.

#SaudiArabia is starting Construction of the Futuristic City #NEOM, an acronym for #Neo #Metropolis, which is being chaired by #Saudi #Crown #HRH #Prince #MohammedbinSalman, who was targeted in an #Assassination Attempt during the 2017 #LasVegas Shootingshttps://www.constructionweekonline.com/168736-saudi-arabia-future-super-city-neom-construction-start-in-2019 …

Great point. One also wonders if there should be any UCI tour events in the United States given the US government’s treatment of refugees at our southern border and the separation policy.

Is this the same woman BJP exchanged for Michel Christian ??

@VivianHYee What could be done about this? Are there any groups of people who are trying to help her? Thank you for writing this story.

I don't disagree, but look what the leader of he USA does to kids, maybe you/we shouldn't support races in the USA either.

Didn’t the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson visit her recently and she was quite pleased and happy with how she was living. She was being well cared for and appeared to be fine

Well said, Neal!

Thanks for covering the story

Neal glad you're taking a stand, thanks. But to clarify, you and @cyclingtips are not covering it at all?

Just found that out?. Dubai, the place where Americans wanted to immigrate thinking they could bring the bill of rights with them. Ask the phillipino & African maids. Fiy ladies in Dubai if you get raped, especially by one with royal hook up & you complain, you'll go to jail.

This story and the one I posted earlier were both on CBC's Passionate Eye last night. We were glued to the couchthese happening blatantly and with such Governmental POWER exerted on Thailandvery scary. Young ladies go missing...by PARENTS!

Celebs who go there for fun should be in trouble

Wish I could read this and watch the video, but I’ve reached my monthly quota of free NY Times stories. #FUCKDONALDTRUMP

Absolutely! I felt VERY uncomfortable there. The income disparity is very obvious and I cannot understand how anyone could enjoy the ‘good life’ there while surrounded by oppressed minorities.

Great work, adds to the many questions left unanswered by Mary Robinson’s involvement in the case of #SheikhaLatifa.

"...marring Dubai's image as a world capital of glitz and commerce like a graffiti tag." Did the last decade of nothing but slave labor stories and women being jailed for rape not already mar its image?

I agree wholeheartedly Neal. That is also why I’m always disappointed when a rider chooses to sign for UAE or Bahrain. It’s an endorsement of a regime that commits crimes against its people.
